Section 139AA of the Income Tax Act provides that every individual who has been allotted a Permanent Account Number (PAN) as of the 1st day of July 2017, and who is eligible to obtain an Aadhaar number, shall intimate Aadhaar number in the prescribed form and manner. In other words, such persons have to mandatorily link their Aadhaar and PAN before the prescribed date (31.03.2022 without fee payment and 31.03.2023 with prescribed fee payment). How do I link PAN with Aadhaar?
To link your PAN (Permanent Account Number) with your Aadhaar (Unique Identification Authority of India), you can follow these steps:
- Visit the Income Tax e-filing website: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/.
- On the home page, click on the "Link Aadhaar" option under the "Quick Links" section.
- Enter your PAN, Aadhaar number, name as per Aadhaar, and the captcha code.
- Click on the "Link Aadhaar" button.
- If the details entered by you match with the details in the Aadhaar database, then your PAN will be successfully linked with your Aadhaar.
Alternatively, you can also link your PAN with your Aadhaar by sending an SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number in the following format:
UIDPAN <12 digit Aadhaar> <10 digit PAN>
For example UIDPAN 123456789012 ABCDE1234F
Please note that the last date to link PAN with Aadhaar has been extended to 30th June 2023.
How do I Check PAN Aadhaar Link Status Online?
To check the status of your PAN Aadhaar link online, you can follow these simple steps:
- Visit the Income Tax e-filing website: https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/.
- On the home page, click on the "Link Aadhaar" option under the "Quick Links" section.
- On the next page, click on the "Click here" button next to the "Check Status of Linking Aadhaar" option.
- Enter your PAN and Aadhaar number in the respective fields.
- Enter the captcha code and click on the "View Link Aadhaar Status" button.
- If your PAN is linked with your Aadhaar, the message "Your PAN is linked to Aadhaar Number XXXX XXXX XXXX" will be displayed.
- If your PAN is not linked to your Aadhaar, the message "There is no PAN linked to this Aadhaar Number" will be displayed.
Please note that it may take some time for the status to be updated on the website after you have linked your PAN with your Aadhaar. Additionally, you can also check the status of your PAN Aadhaar link by sending an SMS to 567678 or 56161 from your registered mobile number in the following format: UIDPAN <12 digit Aadhaar> <10 digit PAN>
